It is an exciting month at SOCRATES, and besides two wonderful workshops, we are also glad to welcome three new fellows:
While at SOCRATES, Prof. Matthew J Brown (Southern Illinois University) will be working on a paper addressing the problem of public trust in science and the role of experts in democracy from a pragmatist perspective. Furthermore, he will be working on a project on the history of views on values in science in 19th and 20th century philosophy of science.
Prof. Craig Callender of UC San Diego will use his SOCRATES fellowship to engage in issues in science and democracy and also environmental ethics. He is especially interested in disinformation and scientific freedom, on the one hand, and on the other he will investigate conservation goals in the light of global climate change.
Dr. Gustav Kessel is visiting from the International Science Council (ISC), and has run an International Science Council (ISC) session at the ‘Enabling Diverse Knowledges Workshop’ on June 14th. Staying on as a visiting fellow for the next two weeks, he will prepare workshop outputs and foster exchange with SOCRATES members on his work advising the ISC’s Committee for Freedom and Responsibility in Science (CFRS).
