Curated Information Frameworks in Journalism: an Appropriate Transparency Approach to LLM News Media

Emily LaRosa25 June 2026

I will present my current work on how LLM use in news media generation and dissemination affects perceived veracity, as well as how the Curated Information Framework (CIF) can be used to engage stakeholders in ethical, informationally-rich ways. Ultimately, the project I will discuss surrounds providing news consumers with (i) digestible and (ii) understandable levels of information surrounding the use of LLMs at different points in the news production chain. Seen as an epistemic object, said production chain becomes a chain of epistemic custody that deserves to be examined and articulated to different stakeholders, in different ways, depending on their engagement and education levels. I am using the CIF to assist with MediaFutures Bergen's goal to present such information to stakeholders according to their epistemic profiles, determined by an in-vivo CIF workshop to be held in November. The goal of this presentation is a rich discussion to determine what kinds of questions and presentation would best benefit the workshop, as well as stakeholders themselves.
