Vita

Suilin Lavelle is a Senior Lecturer in philosophy at the University of Edinburgh and a Humboldt Experienced Research fellow. Her research interests are in philosophy of mind and philosophy of science, with a particular focus on mindreading and the nature of progress in psychology.

Contribution to SOCRATES

Suilin’s recent work has focused on the replication in psychology, arguing that the dominant ‘crisis’ narrative fails to recognize the significant epistemic goods that come from failed replications. She is interested in applying scientific pluralism to developmental psychology, with the aim of making explicit the North American/European-centric focus of this discipline, and arguing that more diverse approaches are required if the field is to reliably produce knowledge.
