Vita

Mason Majszak is a Postdoctoral Fellow at New York University (NYU). His work centers on theoretical and applied issues in climate science. Recently, he has focused on issues related to decision-making under deep uncertainty, looking at extreme hydroclimatic events, such as flooding, and larger tipping behavior in the climate system. Prior to his time at NYU, he completed his PhD at the University of Bern, in Switzerland, working on a project investigating how experts address uncertainty in climate science.

Contribution to SOCRATES

During his time at the SOCRATES Centre, Mason Majszak will be continuing his ongoing work related to risk and the representation of uncertainty for practical decision-making. Here, he will be drafting a new paper related to the introduction of subjectivity in probabilistic representations of uncertainty. Alongside this writing, he will be developing a new book, which will further explore expertise in climate science. This book will engage with the existing philosophical literature as well as the state-of-the-art climate science.
