Ezgi Sertler is currently a SOCRATES fellow. Previously she worked as an assistant professor of philosophy at Utah Valley University, where she also was the associate academic director for the Center for Social Impact as well as the coordinator for Gender Studies. Sertler holds a doctoral degree from Michigan State University. Her research focuses on the epistemic impacts of institutional structures and administrative systems. She is interested in what is and isn’t possible as well as legible within institutions as they produce knowledge, but also ignorance.
Contribution to SOCRATES
During her fellowship, Ezgi Sertler will look into how different branches of Feminist Epistemologies and Science Studies examine the relationship between institutions and knowledge. Her goal is to create a layout of strategies and tactics present in those traditions for organising epistemic inquiries into institutional settings. In doing so, she aims to develop a form of institutional epistemology. She will utilise this approach to better understand the relationship between institutional neutrality, diversity, and social credibility – a relationship posing a challenge for many social as well as scientific institutions today.
