Vita

Alice Wheatley is an epistemologist who works primarily on the nature and value of understanding. Alice has recently studied for a PhD in Philosophy at the University of East Anglia. Her PhD thesis explores three approaches to developing an understanding-oriented epistemology for the environment. Her other research interests include expert testimony, public understanding of science, and epistemic virtues and vices.

Contribution to SOCRATES

As a postdoctoral fellow at SOCRATES, Alice Wheatley will conduct research concerning whether understanding is the aim of science communication. Her papers will focus on the argument that understanding is the aim of science communication, because understanding has the potential to support trust in science.
